While the FRG-100 is a great radio for shortwave listening, it is lacking a keypad for direct frequency entry.  With the IR Remote you can enter frequencies directly, move quickly up and down through frequencies, enter memory channels directly, move quickly up and down through memories, and control modes of the receiver.  All of the features available through the CAT interface that apply to IR remote operation of the FRG-100 have been implemented in the IR Remote.  Yaesu does not provide a means to control the Volume or Squelch using the CAT interface.

The IR Remote connects directly to the FRG-100 CAT port.  The CAT cable is included.  No additional equipment is required.

With the addition of the RS232C Level Converter option, you can control the FRG-100 with your computer as well as have IR Remote control of the receiver.  The FIF-232C CAT interface is not needed.

REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS for the FRG-100:

 Turn receiver on and off.

 Set a sleep time and enable sleep timer.

 Enter frequency directly to 10Hz in the range of 50kHz to 30MHz.

 Increase or decrease frequency using CH in steps of 10Hz, 100Hz, 1kHz, 5kHz, 9kHz, 10kHz, 100kHz, and 1MHz in the range of 50kHz to 30MHz.

 Set up to five (5) User Tuning Steps.  Useful for detuning frequencies by one half of filter bandwidth or use a very small frequency step to quickly zero-beat in SSB mode.

 Recall last directly entered frequency.

 Move memory frequency and mode to VFO.

 Write VFO frequency and mode to currently selected memory.

 Select mode - AM, LSB, USB, FM, and CW.

 Select filter - Wide or Narrow in AM and CW mode.

 Select VFO or Memory mode.

 Dim or brighten display.

 Connect to a computer RS-232C port with optional SWL IR Remote Level Converter.

 Settable parameters:

o Frequency pacing.  You can control the pacing of frequency up and down.  This is how fast the frequency changes when you hold the CH keys.

o Define up to five User Tuning Steps.

 Status LED that shows communications status, settable parameter entry, and clear key operation.
